  • On Monday, June 24th, 2012, the Amherst police department conducted an underage alcohol buy operation. During this buy operation, employees at three businesses sold alcohol to an underage confidential informant. At IGA on Milan Avenue, Jennifer Mckee, age 20 of South Amherst, was charged with Sales to Underage Persons. At Sunoco on North Leavitt Road, Twila Hammond, age 33 of Lorain, was charged with Sales to Underage Persons. At BP Gas on North Leavitt Road, Stephanie Wagner, age 24 of Lorain was charged with Sales to Underage Persons.

 

  • On Monday, June 24, 2013 officers were dispatched to a shopping plaza on Kresge Drive for a report of a male staggering and falling at a local shopping plaza as he attempted to get in his vehicle. The vehicle was located traveling on Kresge Dr. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation conducted. Richard J Cole, age 51 of Amherst, was charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .08% and Failure to Reinstate.

 

  • On Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at 05:08 PM, an officer was on patrol, stopped at the red traffic signal at the intersection of North Leavitt Rd. and the SR 2 westbound exit and entrance ramps. While waiting at the traffic light, the officer noticed a vehicle travel westbound off of the westbound exit ramp of SR 2 at a very high rate of speed. It appeared the vehicle was traveling at speeds in excess of 40 mph while trying to turn southbound on North Leavitt Rd. The officer was able to hear the vehicle's tires squealing on the pavement as it drifted across the intersection and both lanes of North Leavitt Rd. The driver was able to regain control of the vehicle in the west lane and then traveled into the left east lane and continued southbound on North Leavitt Rd. Immediately upon witnessing the reckless operation and disregard for safety, the officer activated his emergency lights and siren to affect a traffic stop on the vehicle. He followed behind the vehicle as the driver ignored his signal and continued southbound on North Leavitt Road and then turned westbound into access road in between businesses. The vehicle then turned southbound into the north parking lot of a business, as the passenger threw an open beer bottle out of the window onto the parking lot. Beer spilled out of the bottle and the bottle rolled into the parking lot in front of the officer, who had to drive around it. The passenger then threw a second bottle out. The car eventually stopped and an investigation was conducted. John Sansom, age 30 of Lorain, was charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .08%, Open Container, Consumption in Motor Vehicle, reckless operation and Turning at Intersections. The passenger, Lloyd Casada, age 32 of South Amherst, was charged with Open Container, Consumption in Motor Vehicle and Littering.

 

  • On Thursday, June 27, 2013, at approximately 07:43 hours, officers were dispatched to a business on Cooper Foster Park Road in regards to a male on a three wheel bicycle who had just stolen pictures from an outside display. An investigation was conducted and James Woodings, age 56 of Lorain, was charged with Theft.

 

  • On Friday, June 28, 2013 at 02:51 AM, an officer was dispatched to Rome Beauty for a vehicle that struck a parked vehicle. An investigation was conducted and it was learned the driver struck the parked vehicle head on. Michael Giacopelli, age 22 of Vermilion, was charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated and Failure to Control.

 

  • On Friday, June 28, 2013 at 10:31 PM, an officer was dispatched to the area of State Route 58 near State Route 2, for a vehicle that ran a red light and was striking curbs. The officer located the vehicle in question and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. An investigation was conducted and Shane Warne, age 33 of Amherst, was charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State Refusal, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Paraphernalia, Red Light Violation and Marked Lanes.
