On Sunday, October 29, 2006, at approximately 1:12am, officers responded to the area of North Main Street and West Martin Street in reference to a male down on the side of the roadway.  Upon arrival, officers spoke to the male, Mr. Guy Mayhew, age 55 of Amherst, who was lying on the side of the roadway in front of a house on North Main Street.  Officers immediately observed a strong odor of intoxicating beverage coming from Mr. Mayhew's person when he spoke.  An investigation was conducted and Mr. Mayhew was cited for Disorderly Conduct Intoxication.

On Sunday, October 29, 2006, at approximately 1:41am, officers responded to the area of Speedway, North Leavitt Road, in reference to a female that appeared to be intoxicated and could possibly be entering a vehicle and attempting to drive.  The complainant advised that the female, later identified as Margaret Allen, age 52 of Amherst, could barely walk and was now sitting in her vehicle in front of the store.  The complainant then advised that the vehicle was now exiting the parking lot.  An officer was able to get behind the vehicle and observe Ms. Allen weaving from side to side within her lane of travel, and to cross over the center double lines several times.  The officers effected a traffic stop on the vehicle on North Leavitt Road and Liberty Woods.  An investigation was conducted and Ms. Allen was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, B.A.C. over .170%, Driving in Marked Lanes and Weaving.

On Sunday, October 29, 2006, at 2:15am, an officer, while on patrol of the downtown area, observed a male urinating on the front of Cedar Pub.  The male, Gregory King, age 22 of Vermilion, was cited for Disorderly Conduct Intoxication.

On Sunday, October 29, 2006, at 11:00am, an officer was dispatched to Lincoln Street in reference to a theft complaint.  The officer spoke with the homeowner who stated, while she was away at a party, a group of juveniles were invited into the house by her children. While inside the residence, one of the juveniles removed a cellular phone and a bottle of vodka.  After an investigation was conducted, it could not be determined who was responsible for removing the items from the residence. A report was taken for file.

On Monday, October 30, 2006, at approximately 7:51am, an officer was dispatched to the area of  Cornell Avenue in reference to a missing 15 year old male. After checking the area, the officer met with the juvenile’s father.  He stated that when he tried to get his son off to school, he refused to go. He stated an argument then ensued between him and his son at which time the juvenile ran out of the house.  After completing the preliminary investigation, officers located the juvenile on Pyle South Amherst Road near the city limits. The father was notified and advised his son would be released to him at the high school.  The juvenile was charged with Unruly Child: Habitual Truant.

On Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at 2:15pm, officers were dispatched to the Amherst Police Department in reference to a theft complaint.  Upon arrival, officers spoke to the complainant who stated two suspects came to her residence and bid on a roof repair.  While speaking, the complainant and suspects differentiated on exactly the work to be completed, to which the suspects left the residence without completing the job. Days later, a check, which the complainant had written for the job, was cashed but none of the services rendered for the money.  The complainant contacted the suspects via telephone requesting a refund of the money. The suspects declined to refund the money and stopped taking phone calls from the complainant. The complainant attempted to resolve the incident informally with negative results.  One suspect was contacted via telephone and denied any wrong doing. That suspect was given one week to correct the problem or face criminal charges. That suspect continued to tell officers we could not file criminal charges against her and she had done nothing wrong.  The matter was referred to the Lorain County Grand Jury for charges.

On Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at approximately 3:00pm, an officer was dispatched to North Lake Street in reference to eggs being found in the mailbox.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who advised when she went to get her mail, she found it to be sitting on 2 broken eggs inside her mailbox.  The complainant stated her neighbor could be responsible for putting the eggs in the mailbox. It was learned from both parties that they do not see eye to eye on a lot of issues and argue on a regular basis.  It is unknown who put the eggs in her mailbox. A report was taken for file.

On Wednesday, November 1, 2006, at 11:33pm, an officer was dispatched to Speedway Gas Station, North Leavitt Road, in reference to a possible intoxicated driver.  The Ohio State Patrol Post #47 received a call from a motorist that was following a possible intoxicated driver westbound on State Route 2.  The caller also stated the female driver of the vehicle in question, which was described as a Chrysler, almost struck several other vehicles on the roadway.  Upon arrival at Speedway, the officer noticed the vehicle in question parked in front of the building.  As the officer drove through the parking lot, a female, later identified as Laurie Sofranko, age 43 of Avon Lake, entered the vehicle and began driving.  A traffic stop was effected on the vehicle after Ms. Sofranko committed a traffic violation.  After  further investigation, Ms. Sofranko was found to exhibit signs of being intoxicated and was arrested for Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, B.A.C. over .170% and Driving in Marked Lanes.

On Thursday, November 2, 2006, at approximately 10:55am, an officer was dispatched to Speedway, North Leavitt Road, in reference to a theft of a purse and other items from a vehicle. The complainant advised she had parked her car on the north side of Speedway and went into the store for approximately 2 minutes.  When she came out, she discovered the items were missing. A possible suspect was observed in the area at the time of the incident. A report was made and an investigation is being conducted.

On Friday, November 3, 2006 at approximately 2:35am, officers were dispatched to Motel 6 room 117, North Leavitt Road, in reference to a noise disturbance complaint.  Upon arrival, officers checked room 117, and determined the complaint to be unfounded.  In addition, the occupants of room 117 complained about the "drunk person" in room 118 knocking on their interior door.  Officers made contact with the occupant in room 118.  It was immediately apparent that the male was intoxicated due to his slurred speech and his odor of an intoxicating beverage.  The male denied knocking at the neighbor’s door. He also advised the officers that he was drinking alcohol to medicate his pain.  After clearing the call, Vermilion Police Department called and requested a report due to alcohol consumption being a violation of Mr. Anders probation. A report was completed and forwarded to the Vermilion Police Department.

On Saturday, November 4, 2006, at 1:45am, an officer was dispatched to the area of State Route 2 for a possible intoxicated driver traveling westbound from the Middle Ridge Road exit.   The Ohio State Patrol Post #47 received a call from a motorist that was following this possible intoxicated driver on State Route 2.  The caller described the vehicle in question as a red Ford truck and provided the Ohio registration.  The officer was able to locate the vehicle in question and witnessed several traffic violations committed by the driver.  The officer then effected a traffic stop on the vehicle. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Mr. William Wood, age 60 of Milan, exhibited signs of being intoxicated.  After further investigation, Mr. Wood was arrested for Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, B.A.C. over .08%, Driving in Marked Lanes and Weaving.

On Saturday, November 4, 2006, at 9:17am, a resident from Baldwin Court arrived at the Amherst Police Department to report a domestic dispute between her and her husband.  Contact was made with both parties and it was determined that the dispute was verbal in nature, although some threats were made by the husband.  The female advised she was not in fear of being injured by her husband and she declined to press charges.  A report was taken for file.

On Saturday, November 4, 2006, at approximately 6:29pm, an officer was dispatched the back parking lot for Ziggy's Bar, Park Avenue, in reference to an auto theft complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant, Pablo Calderon, age 20 of Elyria, and investigated the incident.  During the investigation, Mr. Calderon was found to be very intoxicated, and it was learned that he was under the legal drinking age.  Mr. Calderon was cited for Underage Consumption and the stolen vehicle investigation was referred to the Detective Bureau.   On Friday, November 10, 2006, at approximately 5:38am, an officer, while on patrol in the area of Amherst City Lot 1, located the reported stolen vehicle.  The vehicle owner was notified.
