On Monday, October 2, 2006, at approximately 4:20pm, an officer was dispatched to Giant Eagle, Kresge Drive, in reference to a female who claimed her purse had been taken.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the female victim. She advised she placed her purse in the bottom of the shopping cart while unloading her groceries and was unable to locate it when she was done.   She stated she observed a suspicious male walk close to the back of the cars in the aisle, pass her and then get into a vehicle and drive away.  The male was described as a white male with blue jeans and a faded brown shirt, medium build and under 6 feet tall.  The female was unable to provide a description of the vehicle he drove away in.   The female was advised to cancel all appropriate cards and advise if any fraudulent activity takes place.

On Monday, October 2, 2006, at 7:25pm, officers were dispatched to Discount Drug Mart, North Leavitt Road, in reference to a possible stolen auto complaint.  While en route, information was received advising a theft had occurred at that same location and the suspected stolen was used as a getaway car for the theft. Upon arrival, officers searched the area for the vehicle and suspects with negative results. During the investigation, it was learned that the suspects took a quantity of baby formula and one was caught on the stores video security tape. The suspects were described as two Hispanic males, both of average size and weight, twenty five to thirty five years old. One suspect entered the store while the other drove the vehicle.  The license plate of the suspect vehicle showed the vehicle was stolen from the Cleveland area.  An investigation is pending.

On Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at 12:16pm, an officer was dispatched to Motel 6, North Leavitt Road, in reference to a possible theft. Upon arrival, the officer met with the motel manager and it was learned that a male subject had checked into the motel while their computers were not functioning and she was unable to take his credit/debit card. The male stated that he would have a direct deposit made into his bank later in the day.  When the male checked out later, he advised that he would have to go to an ATM and withdraw money and return later to pay for his room.  The manager stated that the subject failed to return as of 10/10/06 and requested to file arrest charges.  An investigation is pending.

On Thursday, October 5, 2006, at 2:22am, an officer, while on patrol, noticed a vehicle traveling with no headlights and having an extremely loud exhaust.  Due to the traffic violations, a traffic stop was effected.  The driver, later identified as the vehicle owner, Derek Ulichney, age 26 of Amherst, exhibited signs of being intoxicated.  After a further investigation, Mr. Ulichney was arrested for Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State O.V.I. Refusal, Driving Under Suspension, Loud Exhaust, Lighted Lights, Display of Plates, Expired Plates, and Tampering with Records.

On Thursday, October 5, 2006, at 9:12pm, officers were dispatched to a business on Milan Avenue in reference to a suspicious person in a vehicle.  Upon arrival, the odor of marijuana was noticed within the vehicle.  Marijuana was located inside the vehicle and female owner and occupant, Laura Petkovsek, age 21 of Amherst, was cited for Possession of Marijuana and Drug Paraphernalia.

On Friday, October 6, 2006, at 2:14am, an officer effected a traffic stop on a vehicle for a stop sign violation.  Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer made contact with the operator of the vehicle and explained the reason for the stop.  The male passenger, Kyle Ramirez, age 20 of Lorain, began speaking to the officer.  Mr. Ramirez’s speech was very slurred and his eyes were also glassy and bloodshot in appearance.   There was also a very strong odor of an intoxicating beverage emitting from the interior of the vehicle.  After a further investigation, the driver exhibited no signs of being intoxicated and Mr. Ramirez was subsequently cited for underage consumption.

On Friday, October 6, 2006, while patrolling at the football game at Marion L. Steele High School, an officer was called up to the student section of the stands by the assistant principal.   Contact was made with a juvenile male walking down the stands. An odor of intoxicating beverage could be detected on or about his person and his eyes were glassy in appearance.  After further investigation, it was determined that the juvenile male had been drinking.  He was cited for Underage Consumption and referred to the police department diversion program.  He was released to his parents, whom were also at the game.

On Friday, October 6, 2006, officers were on foot patrol at the football game at Marion L. Steele and observed a fight in progress.  The fight was broken up and an investigation followed.  A juvenile male was cited for Disorderly Conduct.

On Saturday, October 7, 2006, at approximately 2:44pm, officers were dispatched to Tractor Supply Company, Cooper Foster Park Road, in reference to an attempted theft of a welder. Upon arrival, contact was made with the store manager, who advised that he observed a "skinny" white male approximately 5'10"- 6' tall, possibly in his early 20's, with a shaved head and a small blondish goatee, enter the store, place a welder into a cart and push the cart into a restricted area.  When the manager stopped the subject, he ran from store and entered a small white car driven by another male. The vehicle then left the area.  The manager declined to file any charges.  No further action is requested at this time.

On Saturday, October 7, 2006, at approximately 6:51pm, an officer was dispatched to the Jackson St. Bridge in reference to an abandoned bike.   An older 26" green girls JC Penney bike with a chrome front fender and a chrome rear book rack was observed laying up against the north bridge abutment.   The bike was taken to the Maple St. garage and secured.

On Saturday, October 7, 2006, at approximately 11:15pm, officers were dispatched to Motel 6, North Leavitt Road, in reference to a male who punched out a window of one of the rooms.  After further investigation, it was learned that a male became argumentative towards his friends while arriving at the motel.  Attempting to avoid further confrontation, the parties went into their room without the male.  He began knocking on the door and smashed out the window.  The suspect left the area before officers arrived.  Management was advised of the situation.
