On Sunday, November 12, 2006, at 7:24am, officers were dispatched to Days Inn Motel, North Leavitt Road, in reference to a theft complaint.  Upon arrival, officers spoke to business employees who stated an unknown suspect had stolen the master keys to the motel rooms. The suspect was recorded on the business security camera tape, which was obtained by officers. An investigation is pending.

On Sunday, November 12, 2006, at 3:14pm, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Police Department lobby in reference to a menacing complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the female complainant who stated that since June, her ex-boyfriend has engaged in a pattern of activity which makes her fear for her safety.  An investigation was conducted and the officer spoke to the ex-boyfriend, advising him to cease all interaction with the female or criminal charges would be filed against him.  A report was made for file.

On Sunday, November 12, 2006, at 9:08pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Elyria Avenue in reference to a bicycle theft.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who stated an unknown suspect(s) came onto his front porch and took his son's black in color, 20" BMX, DK Step-up bicycle.  A report was made for file.

On Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at 4:19pm, an officer was dispatched to the area of North Leavitt Road and Cleveland Avenue in reference to a dispute between two vehicles and one vehicle had discharged a firearm at the other vehicle.  Officers located the vehicles in front of the Amherst City Library and an investigation was conducted.  It was learned that one of the drivers involved was the former boyfriend of the female in the other vehicle.  Believing the male may have malicious intentions, they attempted to flee from him.  Due to no threats being made, no damage to either vehicle, and no found firearm, as per the involved party’s wishes, no criminal charges were filed.  A report was made for file.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2006, at approximately 6:09pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Walnut Street in reference to a criminal damaging complaint.  Contact was made with the complainant who advised she discovered the rear window of her vehicle broken while parked in the driveway. No other damage was noted on the vehicle and the cause was undetermined.  A report was made for file.

On Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at approximately 10:00pm, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Police Department lobby in reference to a criminal mischief complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who stated, on multiple occasions during the summer, she has had food items placed on vehicles that have been in parked in her driveway.  She advised that the most recent incident occurred last week.    She requests extra patrol of her property.  A report was made for file at this time.

On Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at approximately 11:20am, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Police Department lobby in reference to a theft complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer spoke to an employee of Coca Cola who stated a single door cooler, which was being used by Arby’s, Cooper Foster Park Road, was discovered missing.  She stated she spoke to the manager of Arby's, and he could not provide the location of the cooler.  The complainant stated that Coca Cola did not request arrest charges and wanted a report for insurance purposes only.

On Saturday, November 18, 2006, at 12:10am, an officer, while on patrol, noticed a vehicle weaving within its lane of travel.  Due to this and other traffic violations witnessed, the officer effected a traffic stop on the vehicle on Cornell Avenue and Axtel Street.  The driver, later identified as Denis Saltis, age 46 of Lorain, exhibited signs of being intoxicated.  After further investigation, Saltis was arrested for Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated and Weaving.

On Saturday, November 18, 2006, at approximately 7:14am, an officer observed two unattended bicycles laying in the northwest end of the parking lot of Amherst Plaza. The bicycles were both in fair to good condition. The bikes, an orange in color DK brand boys BMX style with Wellgo pedals and 303 rims and a red in color Vegos brand boys BMX style containing numerous Vegos stickers and Vegos on the bike seat, were taken to the city storage facility.

On Saturday, November 18, 2006, at approximately 12:09pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Spring Street in regards to a Telephone Harassment complaint. The female complainant advised the father of her son continues to call and harass her. She advised a previous complaint involving the suspect was currently in the Oberlin Municipal Court system. A complaint report was filed and the victim requested charges to be pending. The report was also forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

On Saturday, November 18, 2006, at approximately 3:29pm, an officer was dispatched to Church Street Bar & Grille, Church Street, in reference to a fight across the street. Upon arrival, the officer observed a male lying on the ground in City Lot #3, bleeding profusely from the nose area and his face covered with blood.  LifeCare ambulance was contacted and transported the male to Amherst Hospital ER. He was later transferred to Cleveland Metro Hospital by helicopter for treatment. The male victim refused to identify his attacker or attackers. The incident was referred to the Detective Bureau for investigation. 

bulletOn Saturday, November 18, 2006, at approximately 7:44pm, officers were dispatched to a residence on Blossom Drive in reference to a burglary complaint. Upon arrival, officers checked the premises and discovered a door at the rear of the residence had been forced open.  Although no one was located in the house at this time, it was confirmed that entry had been made and a number of items were taken.  The incident was referred to the Detective Bureau for investigation

On Saturday, November 18, 2006, at 9:17pm, officers were dispatched to the American Legion, North Lake Street, in reference to a fight in progress.  Upon arrival, officers observed a large crowd of intoxicated people watching two people holding another person on the ground.  An investigation followed and it was determined that Eric Cool, age 36 of Amherst, had been very aggressive toward another party.  During the investigation, Mr. Cool would not heed officer’s instructions to maintain his demeanor and stay calm. Mr. Cool continued in an aggressive manner and kicked out a window to the police cruiser.  He was arrested for Felony Vandalism, Disturbing the Peace, Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, and Disorderly Conduct Persisting.  Also during the investigation a male, Sam Claridy, age 48 of Fairborn, was cited for Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, as he tried to incite Mr. Cool to a fight by yelling across the parking lot after people had been separated.

On Saturday, October 18, 2006, at approximately 11:00pm, an officer was dispatched to the area of Virginia Drive and Weaver Drive in reference to a complaint of a vehicle speeding up and down the street multiple times.  Upon arrival, the officer observed the vehicle in question on Weaver Drive and conducted a traffic stop.  The driver, Joshua Sidley, age 18 of Amherst, immediately turned the vehicle ignition off and stated that he was in his driveway, he was not driving.  An investigation was conducted and Mr. Sidley was arrested and charged with Underage Consumption, Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Driving under Suspension, Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct Persisting and Drug Abuse.  The passenger, Daniel Engelhardt, age 19 of Lorain, was also charged with Underage Consumption.
