On Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at 10:58am, an officer was dispatched to Marion L. Steele High School, Washington Street, in reference to a male student in possession of a knife. Upon my arrival, the officer met with the principal who stated that he was advised by a student that a male, Joseph Chermansky, age 18 of Amherst, was in possession of a knife on the day prior. Mr. Chermansky reported to the office and the knife was found hidden in his pants. He was arrested and charged with Conveyance of a Deadly Weapon in a Safe School Zone, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. | |

On Wednesday, April 1, 2009, officers were dispatched to the Amherst Police Department in reference to a telecommunications harassment complaint. Upon arrival, the officers spoke to the complainant who displayed a text message received by from Alexis Chervenak, age 19 of Lorain. Ms. Chervenak had been instructed by officers on March 18, 2009 to have no further contact with the complainant or the complainant's family members. An investigation was conducted and Ms. Chervenak was arrested and charged with Telecommunications Harassment. | |

On Thursday, April 2, 2009, at 5:51pm, an officer was dispatched to the area of State Route 58 near Golden Acres for a suspicious male walking southbound. The male was dressed in a red sweatshirt and black pants and was stumbling. As the officer arrived in the area, he located a male that fit the description on Butternut Drive that was stumbling and swaying back and forth as he walked. The male, later identified as James Mishak, age 57 of Amherst, was cited for Walking along Highways While Intoxicated and Disorderly Conduct Intoxication. | |

On Thursday, April 2, 2009, at approximately 10:24pm, officers were dispatched to State Route 2 westbound in reference to a juvenile male walking near the roadway. Upon arrival, the juvenile, age 12 of Amherst, was located and ran from the officer. A search was conducted and the juvenile was located and arrested. An investigation was conducted and it was learned that he had run away from his residence. The juvenile was arrested for Obstructing Official Business. | |

On Friday, April 3, 2009, at 2:39am, an officer was on patrol downtown near Church Street and Tenney Avenue. While on patrol, the officer witnessed a vehicle travel through the intersection without making a complete stop at the posted stop sign. He also struck and drove over the curb with the passenger's side rear tire while turning the corner. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted. The driver Grant Krieg, age 26 of Vermilion, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .170%, Failure to Control, and Stop Sign. | |

On Friday, April 3, 2009, at approximately 10:42pm, officers were dispatched to the downtown area near Church Street and Park Avenue in reference to a male grabbing a female's hair and pushing her to the ground. Upon arrival, officers located the involved parties and an investigation was conducted. The male, Jeffrey Bates, age 38 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence, Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, and Walking on Highway Intoxicated. | |

On Friday, April 3, 2009, at 11:22pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on South Main Street in reference to several unwanted parties on the property threatening the homeowner and his son. Upon arrival, the officer observed two males in the parking lot adjacent to the residence yelling obscenities and waving his arms around and acting in a violent and turbulent manner. An investigation was conducted and both males, Zachary Upton and Anthony Pyles, both age 19 of Sheffield Lake, were arrested. Mr. Upton was charged with Underage Consumption, Disorderly Conduct Intoxication and Disturbing the Peace. Mr. Pyles was charged with Underage Consumption. | |

On Saturday, April 4, 2009, at approximately 1:29am, an officer,while on patrol near North Main Street and Sipple Avenue, observed a vehicle weaving from side to side within its northbound lane of travel and operating with no license plate light. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted. The driver, Jeffery Gunter, age 47 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .08%, Weaving Course, and License Plate Light. | |

On Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 12:16pm, an officer was assisting the Ohio State Patrol on an injury accident when he overheard a member of the Amherst Fire Department arguing with a bystander. The officer made contact with the firefighter and bystander, later identified as Theodore Moore, age 49 of Elyria, and learned Mr. Moore had been rummaging through one of the vehicles involved in the accident, although he was not an involved party. When confronted, the firefighter told Mr. Moore to leave and he refused. Mr. Moore became verbally abusive towards the officer and the firefighter and was placed under arrest Mr. Moore was charged with Misconduct at an Emergency and Disorderly Conduct Persisting. |
