 On Sunday, March 16, 2008, at approximately 12:39am, officers were dispatched to East Street in reference to a female yelling for the police.  Upon arrival, officers located the female, identified as Katherine Tight, age 23 of Amherst, and found her to be highly intoxicated and placed her in the rear of the police cruiser.  While officers conducted an investigation, Ms. Tight kicked out the cruiser window.  Ms. Tight was arrested and charged with Criminal Damaging, Disturbing the Peace, Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, and Disorderly Conduct Persisting.  Ms. Tight was transported to the Amherst Police Department for booking and later released to a sober parent on a personal bond.

On Sunday, March 16, 2008, at approximately 3:00am, an officer, while on patrol on North Main Street, observed a vehicle weaving from side to side within its lane of travel.  The vehicle also crossed over the double yellow lines several times, and at one point was entirely in the opposite lane of travel.  A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted.   The driver, Peter Stanchak, age 35 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .170%, Marked Lanes, and Weaving .

On Sunday, March 16, 2008, at approximately 3:04am, officers were dispatched to the area of North Lake Street in reference a female, Katherine Tight, age 23 of Amherst, who exited a vehicle and walked away from the area.  Officers were aware of Ms. Tight due to the fact she was just arrested by our department approximately two hours prior.  Upon arrival of the area, the officer located the female walking in the street on West Martin Street near Stonebridge Drive and then fall into a pile of snow.  Ms. Tight was arrested again and transported to the Amherst Police Department for booking.  Tight was charged with Walking in Streets Intoxicated, Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, and Disorderly Conduct Persisting.

On Sunday, March 16, 2008, at approximately 8:00pm, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Police Department in reference to a domestic violence complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who advised she was assaulted by her boyfriend, David Harker, age 27 of Elyria.  The female signed charges against Mr. Harker and an arrest warrant was issued.  Mr. Harker was later arrested and charged with Domestic Violence.

On Monday, March 17, 2008, at 9:30pm, an officer, while assisting another officer at Church Street Bar and Grille, Church Street, observed a male that had been asked to leave earlier in the night due to his involvement in an altercation.  The male, identified as James Simmons, age 23 of Lorain, had since come back into the establishment and, at the manager's request, was again informed that he had to leave the bar.  Mr. Simmons exhibited signs of being highly intoxicated and refused to leave.  A struggle ensued and Mr. Simmons was taken into custody.  Mr. Simmons was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct Persisting, and Resisting Arrest.

On Monday, March 17, 2008, at 10:47pm, officers were dispatched to a residence on South Main Street, at the request of Sheffield Lake Police Department, to check for a stolen vehicle.  Upon arrival, the officers located the stolen vehicle in question, unoccupied, in a parking lot at the corner of Franklin Street and South Main Street.  After a further investigation, the suspect, Jason Pence, age 27 of Amherst, was found to be at the residence in question and was taken into custody for Sheffield Village P.D.  A report was made for file.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at 2:06am, an officer, while on patrol in the area of Milan Avenue and North Lake Street, observed a vehicle weaving within its lane of travel several times.  A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted.  The driver, Aaron Polovich, age 23 of Vermilion, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .08%, and Weaving.   The passenger, Ashley Costigan, age 19 of Vermilion, was issued a citation for Underage Consumption.

On Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at 11:51pm, an officer, while on patrol on North Leavitt Road near State Route 2, observed a operating with only the parking lights illuminated and not the headlights and make an abrupt left turn failing to yield to the officer’s right of way.   A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted.   The driver, Richard Pickering, age 57 of Bay Village, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State Refusal, Driving under Suspension, Lighted Lights, and Right of Way when Turning.

On Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at 1:07am, officers were dispatched to a residence on Axtel Street in reference to a domestic violence complaint.  Upon arrival, the officers met with one of the involved parties who advised he and his cousin, Jacob Bill, age 24 of Lorain, got into a shoving match because both had been consuming intoxicating beverages.   An investigation was conducted and Mr. Bill would not cooperate and provide any information as to his involvement.  Mr. Bill became enraged and was advised several times to calm down.  Mr. Bill was placed in the rear of the police cruiser to await transportation to another location for the night.  During the time he was in the cruiser, Mr. Bill spit several times throughout the rear passenger area of the vehicle.  Jacob Bill was charged with Disorderly Conduct Intoxication.

On Thursday, March 20, 2008, at approximately 4:37pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Westchester Drive in reference to a domestic violence complaint where the juvenile involved had taken the car without permission and left the residence.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who advised she and her 17 year old daughter got into an argument and the juvenile became violent and bit her.  She then took the vehicle and left.  During the investigation, the juvenile female returned to the house and was arrested for Domestic Violence and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.

On Thursday, March 20, 2008, at approximately 9:38pm, an officer was dispatched to the intersection of Shadylawn Drive and North Woodhill in reference to a possible disabled vehicle.  Upon arrival, the officer located the vehicle stuck in a yard. The vehicle had gone off the roadway into the yard, struck a rock and came to rest just west of the intersection before striking a stop sign.  An investigation was conducted and the driver, Andrea Bertke, age 37 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .170%, and Failure to Control.

On Saturday, March 22, 2008, at approximately 12:02am, an officer, while on patrol, observed a vehicle operating without the required rear plate light and turn sharply into the Cliffview Apartments parking lot at a high rate of speed operating in a reckless manner.  The driver parked the vehicle and began walking through the parking lot.  The officer activated the overhead lights and the male began running through the houses.  After a short pursuit, the male, was apprehended.  An investigation was conducted and the 16 year old juvenile was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Obstructing Official Business, Underage Consumption, Curfew, and Rear Plate Light.

On Saturday, March 22, 2008, at approximately 1:36am, an officer, while on patrol on North Lake Street, observed a vehicle weaving from one side of the roadway to the other and strike the curb to the right side of the vehicle, and then travel to the left side of the roadway and strike the curb to the left side of the vehicle.  The vehicle did this several times.  A traffic stop was conducted and an investigation was conducted.   The driver, John Porostosky, age 49 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Weaving, and Expired Drivers License.

On Saturday, March 22, 2008, an officer, while on patrol downtown, was flagged down by a citizen who stated an intoxicated female was going to operate a vehicle from City Lot 3.  At this point, the officers observed the vehicle begin to leave the parking lot and were able to initiate a traffic stop before the vehicle could reach the roadway.  An investigation was conducted and the driver, Bobbie Funk, age 36 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated and State Refusal.
