On Sunday, March 11, 2007, at 7:35am, an officer was dispatched to State Route 2 just west of North Lake Street in reference to a vehicle in the median. The vehicle was observed by another driver to be swerving on the roadway prior to going off the roadway.  Upon arrival, the officer observed the driver, Derrick Champe, age 43 of Lagrange, still sitting in the vehicle.  He appeared to be very intoxicated and an odor of an intoxicating beverage was detected on or about his person.  His speech was very slurred and unintelligible.  An investigation was conducted and Mr. Champe was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State Refusal and Failure to Control.

On Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at approximately 9:17am, Drug Detector K-9 units were utilized to sniff the lockers at the Amherst Junior High School.  During this time, Sgt Cawthon utilized his K-9 partner, Bandit, to sniff the exterior of student lockers in the first level west hallway.  During the sniff, K-9 Bandit alerted by scratching at several lockers.  The lockers were checked by school officials and no visible signs of drugs were located at the time of the search.

On Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at approximately 12:42pm, an officer was dispatched to Nord School, Lincoln Street, in reference to a theft complaint.  Upon arrival, an investigation was conducted and it was determined that two Nord students stole items from the school during the Book Fair. The two male juveniles involved admitted to the theft and both were charged with Theft and Unruly Child.

On Wednesday, March 14, 2007, at 10:57pm, officers were dispatched to a residence on South Main Street in reference to a domestic violence complaint.  The caller advised she was assaulted by her intoxicated daughter, Ashley Houk, age 18 of Amherst.  Upon arrival, an investigation was conducted and Ms. Houk was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence and Aggravated Menacing.

On Thursday, March 15, 2007, at approximately 1:16am, an officer, while on patrol on Elyria Avenue, observed a vehicle cross over the yellow center lines of the roadway several times and weave within its lane of travel.  A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted.  The driver, Lester Conn, age 48 of Avon Lake, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Weaving, and Marked Lanes.

On Thursday, March 15, 2007, at approximately 12:30pm, an officer was dispatched to Mama Jo's Pies, Cooper Foster Park Road, in reference to a criminal damaging complaint. Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who stated that when he arrived to work, he noticed the company truck had a cracked windshield and the truck had been moved several aisles over.  An investigation was conducted and a report was made for file for insurance purposes.  Extra checks of the business were requested by the complainant.

  On Thursday, March 15, 2007, at approximately 12:43pm, an officer was dispatched to the area of Stamplistics, Amchester Drive, in reference to a male being down and bleeding from his head. Upon arrival, the officer observed the highly intoxicated male, Michael Demarco, age 51 of Lorain, sitting up wiping blood from a gash over his left eye. A friend, who had been with Mr. Demarco, advised that he had fallen and struck his head on the pavement.  An investigation was conducted and Mr. Demarco was issued a citation for Public Intoxication, and Disturbing the Peace.  Mr. Demarco was treated and transported to the hospital by Life Care Ambulance.

On Thursday, March 15, 2007, at approximately 1:52pm, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Police Department in reference to a temporary protection order violation complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who advised that her daughter, Ashley Houk, age 18 of Amherst, just violated the T.P.O. placed against her from her domestic violence arrest the night before.  Ms. Houk was arrested and charged with Violation of a Temporary Protection Order.

On Thursday, March 15, 2007, at approximately 6:32pm, officers were dispatched to Giant Eagle, Kresge Drive, in reference to a theft complaint.  Upon arrival, the officers met with the store Loss Prevention Officer who advised he apprehended a female shoplifter that placed several pieces of meat into her jacket.  An investigation was conducted and Mary Demmey, age 51 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Theft.

On Friday, March 16, 2007, at approximately 8:56pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Rock Creek Run in reference to an unruly juvenile complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the complainant who stated her 17 year old son was missing again.  An investigation was conducted and the juvenile was later located.  He was issued a citation for Unruly Juvenile.

On Saturday, March 17, 2007, at approximately 2:04am, an officer, while on patrol in the downtown area, observed a female urinating in City Parking Lot #1.  During this time, the female, Brooke Kolleda, age 26 of Lorain, was exposing her buttocks.  Ms. Kolleda was issued a citation for Disorderly Conduct.

On Saturday, March 17, 2007, at 2:34am, officers, while on patrol in the area of Park Avenue and Church Street, noticed two males walking in the middle of the street. Both males were unsteady on their feet and had trouble keeping there balance while walking.  The officers made contact with the males who exhibited signs of being highly intoxicated.  James Hritsko, age 48 of Lorain, and Alex Slone, age 47 of Wellington, were issued citations for Disorderly Conduct by Intoxication and Walking on a Highway While Intoxicated.

On Saturday, March 17, 2007, at 11:40am, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Linn Road in reference to a complaint of missing jewelry. Upon arrival, the officer met with the homeowner who stated she discovered several watches, rings and broaches missing from her jewelry boxes. An investigation was conducted and a report was made for insurance purposes.  The incident was turned over to the detective bureau for further investigation.

On Saturday, March 17, 2007, at approximately 3:55pm, officers were dispatched to a residence on Middle Ridge Road in reference to a domestic violence complaint.  Upon arrival, the officers met with the caller who advised she and her daughter, Tina Young, age 28 of Vermilion, were involved in an argument on the telephone.  She stated Ms. Young became so enraged that she terminated the phone call and a short time later, Ms. Young arrived at the residence and assaulted her.   An investigation was conducted and, due to Ms. Young having left the residence prior to the officer’s arrival, a warrant was issued for her arrest.  Ms. Young was later located and arrest for two counts of Domestic Violence and Aggravated Menacing.

On Saturday, March 17, 2007, at approximately 11:06pm, an officer, while on patrol in City Lot #3, was flagged down by a pedestrian who advised there was a fight in front of Park Lanes, Park Avenue.  Upon arrival, the officer observed two males yelling and approaching each other in an aggressive manner. The males were separated and an investigation was conducted. One of the males, Michael Allen, age 23 of Amherst, was intoxicated and persisted in a disorderly manner.  Mr. Allen continued and resisted arrest in the process.  He was issue a citation for Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct Persisting, and Disorderly Conduct Intoxication.

On Saturday, March 17, 2007, at approximately 11:11pm, officers were downtown in reference to a fight in progress.  While investigating the fight in front of Park Lanes, Park Avenue, a male, later identified as Bryan Strader, age of 18 of Amherst, shattered the front glass door to the establishment.  An investigation followed and Mr. Strader was issued a citation for Criminal Damage and Disorderly Conduct.
