On Friday, July 2, 2010, at 4:42am, an officer, while on patrol on North Lake Street near Candy Lane, observed a vehicle traveling left of center in the opposite lane of traffic on North Lake Street. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Joseph Gonzalez, age 55 of Amherst, continued to travel left of center and entered into the officer’s lane of travel. Mr. Gonzalez was driving right at the officer who had to take evasive actions by speeding up and traveling off of the roadway to prevent a collision. As Mr. Gonzalez passed the officer, he continued to travel completely into the opposite lane of travel and off of the east side of the roadway traveling towards a telephone pole and another vehicle. Mr. Gonzalez regained control of the vehicle just prior to striking the vehicle and then traveled back into his lane. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted.
