On Monday, July 6, 2009, at approximately 9:30pm, an officer was dispatched to Crownhill Cemetery in reference to kids in the area causing a disturbance.  Signs clearly posted say that the cemetery is closed at dusk.  Upon the officer’s arrival, he observed approximately 12 people sitting on and standing around the steps to the mausoleum in the front end of the cemetery.  As the officer pulled in, the parties began running away towards the back side of the cemetery.   The officer was able to catch eight of those that ran.  The parties, ages 13, 14, 15 and 17, were transported to the Amherst Police Department and released to a parent or guardian.  All were issued citations for Criminal Trespass.  One adult, Aaron Kudlo, age 19 of Elyria, was issued a citation for Criminal Trespass also.

On Monday, July 6, 2009, at 11:55pm, officers were dispatched to the area of Coopers Run for a possible fight.  The caller advised a male and a female were involved in a fight in front of the house and one of the parties involved left in a vehicle. Upon arrival into the area, officers located the male and female involved and an investigation was conducted.  Jessica Shenker, age 20 of Lorain, was issued a citation for Underage Consumption.  Jeffery Sturgeon, age 19 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Assault, Criminal Damaging, Disorderly Conduct by Intoxication, Disturbing the Peace, Underage Consumption, and Lights and Reflector on Bicycle.

On Monday, July 7, 2009, officers were dispatched to the area of Spring Street and Mill Avenue in reference an assault complaint.  Upon arrival, officers spoke to the juvenile victim.  The juvenile victim was unable to provide much information due to having been rendered unconscious.  Officers were able to speak to other witnesses and obtained a description of the male suspect and a license plate of the vehicle the juvenile suspect left in.  Officers continued to investigate and were able to identify a juvenile suspect.  The juvenile suspect was later arrested for Assault.

On Thursday, July 9, 2009, at approximately 1:55pm, an officer was advised by an unidentified motorist that he had witnessed two males on bicycles exchanging items near Shupe School, and it appeared to have been an illegal drug transaction.  Upon arrival, the officer located several parties and an investigation was conducted.  Codye Mccord, age 18 of Lorain, was issued a citation for Possession of Marijuana.  A 14 year old male was issued a citation for Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Thursday, July 9, 2009, an officer was advised that the Amherst Building Department had documentation regarding a homeowner, Eric Long, age 54 of Amherst, failing to correct several residential property code violations.  The officer issued Mr. Long citations for Expiration Times - Building Permits, Appearance of Exterior of Premises and Structures, Appearance of Exterior of Premises and Structures, Structural Soundness and Repair, Parking and Storage of Vehicles, and Exterior Property Maintenance.

On Friday, July 10, 2009, at 2:37am, officers, while on patrol in City parking lot 1, observed a suspicious vehicle exit City Lot 1 and enter into the back parking lot of Riddles Hardware, Tenney Avenue.  The vehicle then exited Riddles lot and made a turn onto Mill Street without using the vehicle’s turn signal.  The officer initiated a traffic stop and an investigation was conducted.  The driver, Jeffrey Gerber, age 52 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State Refusal, and Signals before Changing Course.

On Friday, July 10, 2009, at approximately 3:23pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Caesars Circle regarding a bike theft.  Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the complainant who advised someone took his bike from his porch earlier in the morning.  An investigation was conducted and three juveniles, ages 12 and 14 were charged with Theft.

On Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 12:13am, officers located a minor disturbance between a male and female in front of Amherst Cinema, Church Street.  The female, Evelyn Koepke, age 39 of Amherst, was visibly intoxicated and was yelling very loudly using vulgar language and slurring her speech.  Ms. Koepke was yelling at her boyfriend and had a hold of his shirt and would not let go.   Officers gave Koepke multiple opportunities to comply with their orders, but she failed to do so.  Because of her disorderly actions and resisting officers, Ms. Koepke was arrested and transported directly to the Lorain County Jail.  She was charged with Disturbing the Peace, Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct Persisting, and Resisting Arrest.

On Saturday, July 11, 2009, at approximately 1:01am, an officer, while on patrol on South Main Street near Beaver Court, observed four subjects walking with what appeared to be open cans of alcohol and a female who appeared to be under the age of 18.  The officer approached the group and conducted an investigation.  Codye Mccord, age 18 of Lorain, was issued a citation for Underage Consumption and Open Container.  A 16 year old male and 14 year old female were also charged with Underage Consumption and Open Container.

On Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 2:45am, officers, while on patrol downtown near City Lot 1, observed a female, Mandy Dillon, age 27 of Lorain, stumbling while walking on the sidewalk in front of the Amherst Cinema.  Ms. Dillon was very unsteady on her feet and she tripped on the sidewalk and almost fell over.  It was evident to officer's that Ms. Dillon was highly intoxicated and a danger to herself.  Upon making contact with Ms. Dillon to check on her welfare, she began to act disorderly.  Ms. Dillon was cited for Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, Disturbing the Peace, and Disorderly Conduct Persisting.

On Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 8:27pm, officers were dispatched to Kresge Drive and Liberty Bell Drive in regards to a female that had fallen off of her bicycle.  Upon arrival in the area, the officer located the female, Sherry Perkins, age 45 of Amherst, and began checking her welfare.  She was found to be extremely intoxicated and in possession of stolen property.  Ms. Perkins was arrested and charged with Theft, Disorderly Conduct by Intoxication and Disorderly Conduct Persisting.

On Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 11:44pm, an officer was dispatched to the area of State Route 2 and North Leavitt Road in regards to a possible drunk driver.  Upon arrival into the area, the officer located the vehicle in question and an investigation was conducted.  The driver, Ronald James, age 57 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Bac over 170%, Open Container, and Marked Lanes.
