On Sunday, January 14, 2007, at approximately 3:25am, an officer was dispatched to the State Route 2 westbound entrance ramp from State Route 58 in reference to a vehicle off the road in a ditch.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the owner of the vehicle, later identified as Anthony Diaz, age 22 of Vermilion.  Mr. Diaz was very irate stating that a male, who he had met six months prior in jail, wrecked his vehicle and took off running.  An investigation was conducted and Mr. Diaz was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, Disorderly Conduct Persisting, and Failure to Control.

On Sunday, January 14, 2007, at 5:49pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on South Main Street in reference to a theft complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who advised an unknown person(s) stole the radio from his car during the night.  An investigation was conducted and a report was taken for file. An investigation is pending.

On Monday, January 15, 2007, at 12:23am, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Kristen Court in reference to a theft from vehicle complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the complaint who advised several items were taken from his unlocked vehicle by an unknown person(s).  An investigation was conducted and a report was taken for file.  An investigation is pending.

On Monday, January 15, 2007, at 8:53am and 10:15am, officers were dispatched to two Ravenglass Drive residences in reference to vehicles being entered during the night.  Upon arrival, the officers conducted an investigation and learned several items were taken from both vehicles by an unknown person(s).   Both vehicles were left unlocked in the driveways.  A report was taken for file and an investigation is pending.

On Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at approximately 2:16am, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Police Department in reference to a domestic dispute complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the female complainant who advised that her estranged husband had called her cellular telephone several times and during one of the calls, he allegedly threatened her.  The female requested a police escort to her residence because the male was there waiting for her.   The officer assisted the female and spoke to the male regarding the complaint.  A report was made for file.

On Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at approximately 8:49am, an officer was dispatched to On the Edge Honda, Rice Industrial Parkway, in reference to an attempted breaking and entering complaint that occurred overnight. The officer met with the complaint who advised the suspects attempted to force open a door at the business. No entry was made. A report was made for file and referred to the Detective Bureau for a follow up investigation.

On Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at approximately 4:00pm, an officer, while conducting an unrelated investigation on the My Space website, found a derogatory My Space account that was allegedly opened by an Amherst High School staff member. Contact was made with the staff member and it was learned that she did not open the account and did not know the account even existed.  At this time, it is unknown who opened the account.  An investigation is pending.

On Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at approximately 5:52pm, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Police Department in reference to a harassment complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who advised she was at Discount Drug Mart, North Leavitt Road, when she saw a juvenile female "flipping her off" and yelling profanities at her from a vehicle in the parking lot.  The complainant advised there have been several other unreported incidents involving this same juvenile in the past.  An investigation was conducted and a report was made for file.

On Thursday, January 18, 2007, at approximately 11:04pm, officers were dispatched to Ziggy's Bar, Park Avenue, in reference to a report of a disturbance in the back area of the bar.  As officers were responding, dispatch advised that a male had assaulted a bar worker as well as a female.  Upon arrival, officers located the male standing at the rear north exit of the bar.  An investigation was conducted and the male, Paul Sroka, age 41 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence.

On Friday, January 19, 2007, at 7:34pm, officers were dispatched to a residence on Hazel Street in reference to a possible burglary complaint and assault.  Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant who had visible injuries to his nose, lip, and head and was bleeding.  He advised his girlfriend’s son, Scott Heisler, age 20 of Amherst, and an unknown male, later identified as Shane Evans, age 30 of Amherst, broke into his residence and assaulted him.  An investigation was conducted and warrants were issued for both males.  Mr. Evans was later located and arrested for Robbery and Assault.

On Friday, January 19, 2007, at approximately 10:46pm, officers were dispatched to the area of Cherry Valley Drive in reference to a suspicious vehicle.  Officers met with the caller who stated he returned home and discovered an unknown red Ford two door vehicle parked in his driveway.  He advised the vehicle was running with its lights off and was occupied by an older white female with frizzy brown hair and a younger male in the passenger seat.  The caller also stated the female said they were in the area trying to get money so they could take a baby to Rainbow Babies and Children's hospital.  Officers checked the area and could not locate the vehicle.  A report was made for file.

On Friday, January 19, 2007, at approximately 11:23pm, officers were dispatched to Dairy Mart, Cleveland Avenue, in reference to a male who stole two 12-packs of beer from the store.  Upon arrival, the officer observed a male walking away from the store with the said items.  An investigation was conducted and the male, Shane Evans, age 30 of Amherst, was arrested and charges with Petty Theft and Disorderly Conduct Intoxication.

On Saturday, January 20, 2007, at 2:35am, an officer, while on patrol in the area of Elyria Avenue and Jackson Street, performed a random registration check through LEADS, using the Ilincs in-car computer, on a vehicle traveling eastbound on Elyria Avenue.  The response from LEADS showed the vehicle's registration was expired.   The officer initiated a traffic stop and conducted an investigation.  The driver, Anthony Moreno, age 18 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle After Underage Consumption,  Underage Consumption, Possession of Cocaine, Drug Paraphernalia, Expired Plates, and Display of Plates.   The passenger, Lenny Santiago, age 23 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine, and Drug Paraphernalia.

On Saturday, January 20, 2007, at approximately 4:04am, officers were dispatched to Motel 6, North Leavitt Road in reference to a fight in progress with people yelling and throwing clothing items out into the parking lot from the room.  The female, later identified as Ms. Bobby Jo Hutchinson, age 24 of Pennsylvania, was visibly upset and crying.  She stated that nothing was going on and that the two had been arguing.  An involved investigation was conducted and Ms. Hutchinson was arrested and charged with Disturbing the Peace, Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana.  The male, Christopher Dezort, age 26 of Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with Disturbing the Peace and Possession of Marijuana.

On Saturday, January 20, 2007, at approximately 10:45pm, Sgt. Cawthon and his K9 partner Bandit met with a Lieutenant from the Sheffield Village Police Department in reference to doing a currency sniff.  The currency sniff was conducted and K-9 Bandit did alert by scratching to the area where the money had been located.   The Lieutenant was advised of the findings.
