On Sunday, January 28, 2007, at 12:35am, an officer was dispatched to Marion L. Steele High School, Washington Avenue, in reference to a found bicycle that was left abandoned on the east side of the building. Upon arrival, the officer located a teal, black and silver woman's Roadmaster MT Sport SX mountain bike with a silver and black seat. A report was taken for file and the bicycle was taken to the city storage facility. | |

On Sunday, January 28, 2007, at approximately 2:40am, an officer, while on patrol in the area of North Main Street and Shadylawn Drive, observed a vehicle weaving within its lane of travel. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the driver, Paul Baraniak, age 42 of Amherst, exhibited signs of being intoxicated. An investigation was conducted and Mr. Baraniak was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State Refusal, Weaving, Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana, and Driving Under Suspension | |

On Sunday, January 28, 2007, at approximately 5:30pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Jackson Street in reference to a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the intoxicated female who advised her intoxicated husband had been yelling all day and she wants him to stop. An investigation was conducted and it was determined that neither party felt threatened and neither wanted to take further action. A report was taken for file. | |

On Monday, January 29, 2007, at approximately 3:13am, officers responded to the area of North Main Street and the northern city limits in reference to a vehicle that had flipped and was in the ditch. Upon arrival, the officers observed the vehicle sitting in the front yard of a residence on North Main Street. The driver was still inside of the vehicle and appeared to be severely injured. The Amherst Fire Department was contacted for assistance. During the investigation, there was a very strong odor of intoxicating beverage coming from the driver. There were also several open containers located inside of the vehicle, along with a metal pipe used for smoking crack cocaine inside of his pants pocket. The driver was taken to the hospital by LifeCare Ambulance and later transported to Metro Health Medical Center. A report was taken and will be referred to the Grand Jury for direct indictment on multiple charges. | |

On Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at approximately 5:36am, an officer, while on patrol near North Leavitt Road and Kresge Drive, observed a vehicle travel through a red light, strike the curb several times and weave out of it's lane of travel. The driver, Tracy Perchinsky Jr., age 20 of Lorain, had an odor of intoxicating beverage coming from his person, red and glassy eyes and trouble speaking. An investigation was conducted and Mr. Perchinsky was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .170, Underage Consumption, Failure to Comply, Failure to Control, Weaving, Marked Lanes, Display of Plates, and Red Light. | |

On Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at approximately 11:43pm, officers were dispatched to a residence on Elyria Avenue in reference to the callers intoxicated brother attempting to take her 4 year old son from the residence. An investigation was conducted and the male, who has custody of the 4 year old, agreed to leave him there for the night. | |

On Wednesday, January 31, 2007, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Terra Lane in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the complainant who stated she found several items missing from the house and she believes her soon to be ex-husband may have been the one that took them. The complainant was advised to contact her attorney due to this being a civil matter. A report was made for file. | |

On Thursday, February 1, 2007, at approximately 5:15pm, officers were dispatched to a residence on Hume Hill in reference to an unruly juvenile complaint. Upon arrival, an officer made contact with the complainants who advised their 17 year old son was acting unruly by not following the rules. An investigation was conducted and the juvenile was cited for Unruly Juvenile. | |

On Thursday, February 1, 2007 at approximately 6:15pm, Sgt. Cawthon and his K9 partner, Bandit, assisted the Adult Parole Authority and Adult Probation in the City of Elyria conducting home visits of subjects currently on probation or parole. During the visits, several drug paraphernalia items were located at one of the residences. The Adult Parole Authority was advised of the findings. | |

On Friday, February 2, 2007, at approximately 3:11pm, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Police Department in reference to a harassment complaint. Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who advised he is being harassed by his ex-girlfriend. He stated is continuously contacted by her either by phone or letters. The officer made contact with the female advising her to cease contact with the male. A report was made for file. | |

On Friday, February 2, 2007, at approximately 7:05pm, an officer, while on patrol, observed a vehicle stuck in a ditch and facing in the opposite direction as the road travels on North Lake Street near the Amherst Police Department. The officer made contact with the occupants of the vehicle and could detect a strong odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from the driver, Vorel Suki, age 64 of Elyria. An investigation was conducted and Mr. Suki was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .08%, and Failure to Control. | |

On Saturday, February 3, 2007, at approximately 1:26am, officers were dispatched to the Pinecrest Apartments, Middle Ridge Road, in reference to a call of a vehicle that had driven off the roadway and was stuck in the grass in front of the apartments. Upon arrival, the officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. An investigation was conducted and the driver, Gary Vanauken, age 27 of Vermilion, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .170% and Failure to Control. | |

On Saturday, February 3, 2007, at 2:14am, an officer, while on patrol, noticed a vehicle travel through the intersection at 5 Points at a high rate of speed almost causing a collision with another vehicle. The officer initiated a traffic stop for this and several other traffic violations. The driver, Kristopher Aponte, age 26 of Amherst, exhibited signs of being intoxicated. An investigation was conducted and Mr. Aponte was arrested and charges with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State Refusal, Reckless Operation, Following Too Close, Weaving, Marked Lanes, Speed, Possession of Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia, Aggravated Menacing, Obstructing Official Business, and 2 counts of Intimidation. |
