During the month of December, the Amherst Police Department became aware of information of drug trafficking in the area of Amherst High School or involving high school students. Persons involved in the information were later identified as a 16 year old student. The information this officer received was corroborated through further investigation. On Friday, December 12, 2008, acting on the previously obtained and corroborated information, officers from the Amherst Police Department and the Lorain County Drug Task Force were able to set up surveillance on the juvenile suspect who was the passenger in a vehicle. This vehicle was being driven by another male juvenile driver who was later identified. The suspect vehicle pulled into a local parking lot. The juvenile suspect got out of that vehicle and went to another vehicle driven Jeff Strugeon, age 19 of Lorain. Within a few minutes another vehicle pulled into the parking lot next to the next to the first vehicle. The juvenile suspect got out, went over to the third vehicle and got in the passenger side. Officers observed what appeared to be a hand-to-hand transaction between the juvenile and the driver of the third vehicle. The juvenile went back to the vehicle driven by Strugeon and then back to his/her original vehicle driven by the other 16 year old juvenile. Several people were detained out of this incident and the original 16 year old suspect and Mr. Sturgeon were arrested and charged with Trafficking in Marijuana, Possession of Criminal Tools, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana. | |
