On Sunday, December 3, 2006, at approximately 2:25am, an officer, while on patrol in his cruiser, was nearly struck by another motorist who did not stop at the stop sign posted for westbound traffic on Tenney Avenue at the intersection of South Main Street. The officer effected a traffic stop for this and other violations observed. The driver, Tonya Bowen, age 33 of Lorain, had slurred speech, glassy eyes, poor balance and an odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from her person. An investigation was conducted and Bowen was arrested and formally charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC Over .08, Speed, Marked Lanes, Expired Plates, Weaving, Stop Sign and Drug Paraphernalia. | |

On Sunday, December 3, 2006, at 8:55am, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Walnut Drive in reference to a criminal mischief complaint. Upon arrival, the officer observed that the garage door had been spray painted with black paint and that a picture had been painted on the roadway in front of another residence on Walnut Drive, also in black paint. The incident apparently happened during the night. Two other residences on Orchard Hill were also spray painted. The pictures and the theme of the spray painting appear to be the same. An investigation is pending. There are no suspects at this time. | |

On Monday, December 4, 2006, at approximately 3:54am, an officer, while on patrol on Cooper Foster Park Road, observed a vehicle weaving within its lane of travel and nearly strike a telephone pole. A traffic stop was effected and an investigation conducted. The driver, John L. Lynch IV, age 36 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State OVI Refusal, Driving Under Suspension, and Weaving. | |

On Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at 11:13pm, officers were dispatched to area of Cleveland Ave. and St. Joseph's Dr. in reference to a reckless operation complaint. After checking the area, the vehicle in question was located and a traffic stop was effected. After making contact with the driver, later identified as Manuel Lopez, age 24 of Lorain, officers noticed he exhibited signs of being intoxicated. After conducting a further investigation, Mr. Lopez was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated and Possession of Marijuana | |

On Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at approximately 5:22am, officers were dispatched to a residence on Plaza Drive in reference to a 911 call of a vehicle that was on fire in the driveway. Upon arrival, the officers observed a Ford Expedition completely engulfed in flames in the driveway. The fire from the Expedition began to spread to another vehicle and a travel trailer also parked in the driveway. Units from the Amherst Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fires. The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time and is under investigation. | |

On Thursday, December 7, 2006, at approximately 2:37am, an officer, while on patrol, observed a vehicle exit the parking lot on the south side of Franklin Avenue and South Main Street, at a high rate of speed and weave from side to side within its lane of travel. The officer effected a traffic stop on the vehicle and an investigation was conducted. The driver, identified as Joseph Kozarec, age 24 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .170, and Weaving. | |

On Thursday, December 7, 2006, at approximately 6:44pm, officers were dispatched to a residence on Hazel Street in reference to a third party complaint of a domestic dispute. Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant who stated that his mother and her boyfriend had been physically fighting upstairs in the apartment. An investigation was conducted and it was learned that the male and female were involved in a verbal argument and that nothing physical took place. Neither party wished to pursue charges. A report was made for file. | |

On Friday, December 8, 2006, at approximately 4:15pm, an officer was dispatched to Park Lanes, Park Avenue, for unwanted juveniles. Upon arrival, the officer met with the owner and conducted an investigation. The officer found two juveniles in possession of cigarettes and one was in possession of a bottle of vodka and a bottle of apple pucker liquor. Both were cited and referred to Juvenile Court. | |

On Friday, December 8, 2006, at approximately 4:23pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on South Lake Street in reference to a complaint of a male in a vehicle who approached a young juvenile and asked him to help him look for his cat. The officer spoke to the complainant and it was learned that her 10 year old son was approached while walking home from the bus stop. The description of the vehicle was an older two door brown car with rust spots, a white male driver with brown hair, age between 40 and 50, and a younger female in the passenger seat. A partial license plate of DTK was also given. Officers checked the surrounding area with negative results. A report was made for file. | |

On Saturday, December 9, 2006, at approximately 3:26pm, officers were dispatched to the area of Park Avenue and South Main Street in reference a heavily intoxicated female. Upon arrival, officers were advised that a female was stumbling down Park Avenue and that she almost fell over several times. Linda Markus, age 41 of Amherst, was cited for Disorderly Conduct Intoxication and released to a family member. |
