On Sunday, December 30, 2007, at approximately 2:52am, an officer witnessed a vehicle round the curve at West Martin and Stonebridge and strike the curb with the passenger tire.  A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted.  The driver, Edward Cotton, age 19 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Failure to Control, Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .170%, and Underage Consumption.

On Monday, December 31, 2007, at 2:09am, officers were dispatched to a residence on Church Street in reference to a domestic violence complaint.  Upon arrival, officers spoke with the complainant who advised the male party in question had a knife.  Officers feared possible serious harm to the female involved and entry was forced into the apartment.  Once inside, a pregnant female was observed bleeding from the face.  An investigation was conducted and the male, Gustavo Gutierrez, age 30 of Amherst, was taken into custody.  Mr. Gutierrez was arrested and charged with Felonious Assault, Kidnapping, Obstructing Official Business, Domestic Violence, and Disorderly Conduct Intoxication.

On Tuesday, January 1, 2008, officers responded to a traffic stop in the City of Lorain in reference to a shoplifting complaint.  An investigation revealed that an off-duty Lorain Police officer followed a vehicle to Lorain from Giant Eagle in Amherst after observing a possible shoplifter attempt to take an item from the store.  The subject, James H. Mahaney, age 50 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Theft. The driver of the car, George Duff, age 63 of Lorain, was charged with Complicity to Theft, Receiving Stolen Property, and Criminal Tools.

On Wednesday, January 2, 2008, officers were dispatched to a residence on English Lakes Blvd in reference to a male who has been threatening his mother and uncle.  Upon arrival, officers met with the complainants and an investigation was conducted.  Bob Stack Jr., age 29 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence and Menacing.

On Saturday, January 5, 2008, officers were dispatched to the Amherst Post Office, North Leavitt Road, in reference to a male sleeping in a vehicle.  Upon arrival, officers made contact with the driver, Daniel Pohorence, age 38 of Amherst, and conducted an investigation.  Mr. Pohorence was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia, Drug Abuse Instruments, and Open Container.  Suspected felony drugs were located on Mr. Pohorence and sent away for testing.  Additional charges will be filed, pending the test results.
