On Thursday, December 18, 2008, at 4:14am, an officer was dispatched to Sunoco, South Leavitt Road, in reference to a suspicious occupied vehicle complaint. At the time of the call, Lorain County Sheriff units were called to assist due to all Amherst officers being out on an unrelated call. Upon their arrival, they located the vehicle and its occupant. After a short investigation, they located two loaded firearms inside the vehicle and they took the vehicle owner/occupant, Barrin Duane Hanson, age 28 of Virginia Beach, into custody. Mr. Hanson was later taken into custody by Amherst Police and arrested and charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Improper Handling of Firearms in Motor Vehicles. | |

On Friday, December 19, 2008, at approximately 2:18am, an officer, while on patrol on Middle Ridge Road, observed a vehicle squealing it's tires and operating at what appeared to be a very high rate of speed. The officer also observed the vehicle cross over the double yellow lines to the left side of the vehicle several times. The vehicle then drove off of the driveway and onto the grass, next to a detached garage, and finally stopped behind the garage in what appeared to be an attempt to elude the officer. The officer approached the vehicle and conducted an investigation. The driver Jason Jenkins, age 22 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Obstructing Official Business, Failure to Comply, Reckless Operation, and Marked Lanes. | |

On December 19, 2008, at approximately 4:49pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Church Street in reference to a trespass complaint. According to the anonymous caller, he witnessed a juvenile male on the vacant property near by. The caller stated the male took something from the property and headed northbound on Church Street and entered the house on the corner of Church Street and Maple Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers conducted an investigation and located the juvenile involved. He was charged with Unruly Child, Criminal Trespass, and Theft. | |

On Friday December 19, 2008, at approximately 9:21pm, an officer was dispatched to the area of Park Avenue in downtown Amherst in reference to a complaint of an intoxicated driver. Upon arrival, the officer located the vehicle in question attempting to park in a non-marked parking space between two handicapped parking spaces. The officer made contact with the driver, Bruno Catalano, age 52 of Amherst, and conducted an investigation. Mr. Catalano was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated and State Refusal. |
