On Sunday, December 13, 2009, at approximately 2:56am, an officer, while on patrol at Denny’s Restaurant, North Leavitt Road, performed a random registration check through LEADS on a vehicle with an a possible expired registration sticker. The response from LEADS advised the listed owner of the vehicle, Nathaniel Silva, age 28 of Lorain, had a suspended driver's license and the vehicle registration had expired. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted. Mr. Silva was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Driving under Suspension, State Refusal, Expired Plates, Display of Plates, and Open Container. The passengers, Patricia Johnson, age 35, and Jessica Sommers, age 37, both of Lorain, were issued citations for Open Container. | |

On Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at 11:12pm, officers were dispatched to the Amherst Hospital emergency room parking lot in reference to the on duty security guard witnessing two intoxicated males who were possibly going to leave the parking lot operating a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers observed the males in question stumbling through the parking lot and walking over to a vehicle. The officers approached the vehicle and pulled behind to prevent them from leaving. An investigation was conducted and the males, Clinton Buttolph, age 23 of Lagrange, and Michael Haupricht, age 21 of Amherst, were issued citations for Open Container and Littering. | |

On Thursday, December 17, 2009, at 10:34am, an officer was dispatched to First Merit Bank, Cleveland Avenue, reference a menacing complaint. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the complainant and manager who advised a male, John Chomet, age 53 of Amherst, arrived at the bank and made a threat to shoot an employee of the mortgage office in the Akron/Canton area if his insurance check was not deposited in his account. The male had left the bank before officers arrived. An investigation was conducted and a warrant was issued for Mr. Chomet for Aggravated Menacing and Inducing Panic. The next day, Mr. Chomet was located and arrested without incident. | |

On Friday, December 18, 2009, at 12:09am, an officer, while on patrol on Prospect Drive and Park Avenue, observed a vehicle City Parking lot # 3 through the section designated for one way travel only. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted. The driver, Ashley Swiger, age 19 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .08%, Driving Under Suspension, Underage Consumption, Misrepresentation to Obtain Alcohol, Drug Paraphernalia, and One Way Street. The passenger, Michalena Mccann, age 20 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Underage Consumption, Misrepresentation to Obtain Alcohol, and Wrongful Entrustment. | |

On Friday, December 18, 2009, at approximately 5:23am, an officer was dispatched to Sunoco, North Leavitt Road, in reference to a male subject having attempted to pay for an item with a counterfeit $20.00 bill. Upon arrival, the officer met with the clerk who advised a younger white male came into the store and attempted to purchase a .69 cent item with a counterfeit bill. The male left the store and the clerk obtained the license plate information to the vehicle involved. The male in question, Kyle Karhurz, age 19 of Amherst, was located at his residence. An investigation was conducted and Mr. Karhurz was arrested and charged with Criminal Simulation, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana. Further criminal charges are pending the outcome of further investigation. |
