On Sunday, August 3, 2008, at 11:23am, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Valley Drive in reference to a found bicycle. Upon arrival, the officer met with the homeowner who stated he discovered a girls BMX bicycle on his tree lawn a couple of weeks ago. He displayed the bicycle closer to the front of his residence thinking it may belong to a neighborhood child but no one claimed the bicycle. The bicycle was taken and placed into storage at the Amherst Police Department. A recovered bike form was completed. Anyone missing the bicycle should contact the police department with a further description. | |

On Friday, August 8, 2008, at approximately 2:44am, an officer, while on patrol in the parking lot of Taco Bell, North Leavitt Road, observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed turning onto State Route 58 and committed several traffic violations. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted. The driver, Ryan Walton, age 31 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State Refusal, Squealing Tires, and Weaving. | |

On Monday, August 11, 2008, at approximately 3:19pm, an officer was dispatched to an accident on North Leavitt Road, in front of Convenient, involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. LifeCare witnessed the accident and was already on scene. Upon arrival, the officer met with LifeCare staff and the female, Sherry Perkins, age 44 of Amherst, who was riding the bicycle. An investigation was conducted and Ms. Perkins was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated and State Refusal. | |

On Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at 1:26am, officers were dispatched to a residence on Blossom Drive in reference a complaint that the intoxicated homeowner struck his garage and possibly his mother's vehicle trying to get his car out of the garage. The complainant advised that she knew the male was intoxicated and she purposely parked her vehicle in front of the garage so he could not get his vehicle out and drive. Upon arrival, officers noticed the vehicle in question stuck on top of a large boulder that was located in the landscaping. Contact was made with the homeowner, David Hritsko, age 43 of Amherst, and an investigation was conducted. Mr. Hritsko was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated and BAC over .08%. | |

On Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at approximately 5:39pm, officers were dispatched to the area of North Main Street near the city limits in reference to two black males who just stole a bike from a garage. Upon arrival, officers located the juvenile males, ages 11 and 16, both of Lorain. An investigation was conducted and both juveniles were arrested and charged with Unruly Juvenile, Theft and Burglary. | |

On Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at approximately 9:00pm, an officer was dispatched to Target, Oak Point Road in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival, the officer met with Target personnel who advised that he observed another employee, Cassandra Caputo, age 19 of Lorain, take money from the register in the electronics department and hide it with some clothing. An investigation was conducted and Ms. Caputo was arrested and charged with Grand Theft. | |

On Thursday, August, 14, 2008, at 1:43am, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Milan Avenue in reference to an unruly juvenile that just left the house. As the officer arrived in the area, he located the juvenile a few houses away. An investigation was conducted and the juvenile was charged with Unruly Juvenile and taken to the Turning Point. | |

On Thursday, August 14, 2008, at approximately 4:28pm, an officer was dispatched to First Merit Bank, North Leavitt Road, in reference to a private property accident where a vehicle struck the building. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the driver, Andrea Podgorski, age 53 of Grafton, who advised her 3 year old grandson, who was unrestrained in the vehicle, grabbed the steering wheel while she was backing out of the parking space and caused her to hit the building. An investigation was conducted and Ms. Podgorski was arrested and charged with Driving on a Temporary Permit, Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Child Endangerment, and Child Restraint. | |

On Friday, August 15, 2008, at 12:54am, an officer, while on patrol on North Main Street near State Route 2, observed a vehicle traveling at a very high rate of speed and travel left of center over the double yellow line and then swerve back to the right crossing over the white edge line. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted. The driver, Daren Abraham, age 27 of Amherst, was arrested and charged Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State Refusal, Drug Abuse; Possession of Marijuana, Drug Paraphernalia, Driving under Suspension, Reckless Operation, Marked Lanes, and Weaving. | |

On Saturday, August 16, 2008, at 12:42am, an officer, while on patrol in City Parking Lot # 1, observed a small disturbance in front of RC’s bar and noticed one of the bouncer's push a male, later identified as Michael Zimmer, age 39 of Amherst, outside of the bar. The officer approached the bouncer who immediately advised Mr. Zimmer was the male causing the problem. An investigation was conducted and Mr. Zimmer was cited for Disorderly Conduct by Intoxication. | |

On Saturday, August 16, 2008, at approximately 2:12am, an officer, while on patrol downtown, observed a vehicle in City Lot #3 with both doors open and a female, later identified as Kathryn Boland, age 19 of Westlake, squatting while urinating in front of the vehicle. The officer approached the female and an investigation was conducted. During the investigation, the officer was approached by a male, identified as Curtis Survance, age 22 of Amherst, who was found to be intoxicated, and be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Ms. Boland was issued a citation for Disorderly Conduct Intoxication and Prohibition. Mr. Survance was Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. | |

On Saturday, August 16, 2008, at approximately 2:15am, an officer, while on patrol in the downtown area, heard a motorcycle start up in the business area and constantly rev the motor at a very high R.P.M. causing the exhaust pipes to crack and pop. A short time later, the officer heard the bike leave the business area and noticed a red motorcycle with chrome side pipes enter the intersection of South Main Street and Milan Avenue. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted. The operator Matthew Stewart, age 22 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State Refusal, and Reckless Operation. |
