On Sunday, August 23, 2009, at approximately 2:39am, officers, while on patrol downtown, informed an intoxicated female not to drive. However, she started up the vehicle and started backing out of the parking lot. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted. The driver, Dawn Rogala, age 39 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .08, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana. | |

On Monday, August 24, 2009, at approximately 1:44am, an officer responded to North Leavitt Road and St. James Place, Lorain, to meet with several Lorain PD officers in reference to a possible domestic violence incident that occurred in our city. An investigation followed and it was learned that the domestic violence incident did occurred in the City of Amherst. The suspect, Albert Flores, age 33 of Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with Domestic Violence. | |

On Monday, August 24, 2009, at approximately 9:45am, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Animal Hospital, Cooper Foster Park Road, in reference to two dogs running at large and intimidating clients that are trying to get into the building. The dogs were located and an investigation was conducted. The dog owner, Laura Adkins, age 20 of Vermilion, was issued a citation for Dogs and Other Animals Running at Large. | |

On Thursday, August 27, 2009, at approximately 3:29pm, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Police Department regarding an unruly juvenile complaint. Upon arrival, the officer met with the father who advised his step son has been acting out lately and stole his car last week. An investigation was conducted and the 16 year old male was charged two counts of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Theft, and Unruly Juvenile. | |

On Friday, August 28, 2009, at approximately 12:54am, an officer, while on patrol on Middle Ridge Road near Sleepy Hollow Drive, observed a vehicle traveling at a speed greater than the posted speed limit. When the officer started to get close to the vehicle, it accelerated at a high rate of speed in what appeared to be an attempt to elude him. While pursuing the vehicle, the officer observed the vehicle commit several traffic violations and appeared to be operating in such a manner that put the public at a safety risk. The officer was unable to catch the vehicle and had to terminate the pursuit of same. The vehicle was located several minutes at a nearby residence and an investigation was conducted. The driver, Donald Calvert, age 39 of Elyria, later came to the Amherst Police Department and turned himself in. Mr. Calvert was arrested and charged with Failure to Comply with Order or Signal, Obstructing Official Business, Driving under Suspension, Red Light, Stop Sign 5 counts, Speed, Reckless Operation, and Marked Lanes. | |

On Friday, August 28, 2009, at 10:45pm, an officer was dispatched to the area of North Lake Street and State Route 2 in regards to a report of a possible impaired motorist. The officer observed the vehicle traveling left of center. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted. The driver, Laureen Suspenski, age 53 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Left of Center, and B.A.C. over .08%. | |

On Friday, August 29, 2009, at 1:27am, an officer, while on patrol on South Leavitt Road, observed a vehicle traveling at a speed greater than the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted. The driver, Brenda Walker, age 46 of Lorain, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Speed, B.A.C. over .08%, and Open Container. | |

On Saturday, August 29, 2009, at approximately 2:39am, an officer, while on patrol on North Leavitt Road, observed a vehicle to weaving from side to side within its northbound lane of travel as well as cross over the double to the right side of the vehicle several times. A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted. The driver, Jennifer Henderson, age 22 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, Bac over .08%, Marked Lanes, and Weaving. |
