On Sunday, August 12, 2007, at approximately 2:14am, an officer, while on patrol near Park Avenue and Church Street, observed a vehicle squealing its tires and weaving from side to side.   A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted.  The driver, Mitchell Eppler, age 46 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with  Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .170%, Driving in Marked Lanes, Squealing Tires, and Signals before Changing Course.

On Sunday, August 12, 2007, at approximately 6:53pm, officers were dispatched to North Main Street in reference to a male that crashed his bicycle into an orange construction barrel and was now unconscious in the middle of the roadway.  Upon arrival, an investigation was conducted it was determined the male, Dean Hill, age 48 of Amherst, was highly intoxicated.  Mr. Hill was transported to the hospital by Lifecare and later charged with OVI on a bike and Disorderly Conduct Intoxicated.

On Sunday, August 12, 2007, at 7:22pm, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North Main Street in reference to a fight.  Upon arrival, officers located several juveniles and an investigation was conducted.  Two juvenile males were issued citations for Disorderly Conduct Fighting and Assault.

On Sunday, August 12, 2007, at approximately 9:05pm, an officer, while assisting on a fight call, advised a group of subjects not involved in the incident to leave the area. One of the juvenile subjects became uncooperative and refused to leave.  The male was cited for Disorderly Conduct, Unlawful Congregation, Failure to Disperse, and Riding a Bicycle on the Sidewalk.

On Sunday, August 12, 2007, at approximately 9:50pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Greenlawn Drive in reference to a vehicle that was broken into.  Upon arrival, the complainant advised he observed two males looking through his vehicle. They then entered an older dark colored vehicle and left the area.  An investigation was conducted and a report was made for file.

On Monday, August 13, 2007, at approximately 12:22am, officers were dispatched to a residence on Terra Lane in reference to an underage party.  Upon arrival, officers located several underage subjects in the back yard of the residence with alcoholic beverages.  Daniel Shattuck, age 18 of Westlake, Jarod Morningstar, age 19 of Lorain, Bryan Thompson, age 19 of Amherst,  and two 17  year old females were cited for Underage Consumption.

On Monday, August 13, 2007, at 11:46am, officers were dispatched to the Amherst Police Department in reference to a telecommunications harassment complaint.  Upon arrival, officers spoke to the complainant who advised she had received harassing phone calls and text messages from her ex husband and his fiancée. An investigation was conducted and both parties, Daniel Hicks, age 33 of Amherst, and Katie Myers, age 31 of Amherst, were arrested and charged with Telephone Harassment.

On Monday, August 13, 2007, at 6:09pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Park Avenue in reference to a theft complaint. Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the complainant who advised someone entered her garage and stole her grill.  An investigation was conducted and a report was made for file.

On Monday, August 13, 2007, at 11:46pm, officers copied radio traffic that Lorain P.D. was in pursuit of a vehicle southbound on North Leavitt Road towards our city.  Officers in the area observed the suspect vehicle enter into the city and took over the pursuit.  After several minutes, the suspect vehicle pulled into the Vietnam Memorial parking lot on North Lake Street and stopped.  The driver, Michael Garcia, age 24 of Avon, was taken into custody and charged with Failure to Comply with a Lawful Order or Signal, Driving under Suspension, Red Light, Safety Belt, Weaving, and Driving in Marked Lanes.  Mr. Garcia was transported from the scene to the Lorain County Jail by Lorain PD to be held on their charges.

On Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at 11:07am, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Greenlawn Drive in reference to a belated suspicious vehicle complaint. in the area of Nord School the day before.  Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the complainant who advised she was out on a walk the morning before with her daughters on Lincoln Street near Nord School when a white van passed them and the passenger was hanging out of the side window. The van passed them and stopped in the middle of the street.  She advised the male never grabbed at them nor said anything, but she was unsure what his intentions were. Mrs. Vanniel reported that when he made that move it made her very uncomfortable as she did not know what his intentions were.  The van was described as an older minivan with a squared back. The vehicle appeared to have been hand painted white, as everything on the van was pained white to include the bumpers. It also appeared the door on the passenger side was welded shut.  The passenger was described as a white male in his 30’s wearing big sunglasses, style from the 70’s. He had dark brown hair with blond highlight on top, a brown mustache, tanned skin, and a tattoo on his right arm, blue in color that looked something like an emblem but had a peek type design on the top. The driver was a white male approximately 50-60 years old, heavy set, gray beard and a farmers tan on his arm. He was wearing a baseball cap, oversized sunglasses and it appeared that he was either balding or had a close shaved head.  A report was made for file.

On Friday, August 17, 2007, at approximately 5:06am, officers were dispatched to a residence on Lincoln Street in reference to an unknown intoxicated male that had walked into the house and passed out on the living room.  Upon arrival, the complainant directed officers to the male who was lying in a fetal position on the floor.  An investigation was conducted and the male, Robert  Kubic, age 38 of Amherst was arrested and charged with Criminal Trespass, Disorderly Conduct  Intoxication, and Disturbing the Peace.

On Saturday, August 18, 2007, at approximately 1:22am, officers were dispatched to Ultimate Wash, Kresge Drive, in reference to a male lying in the parking lot and possibly injured. Upon arrival, officers observed the male, Michael DeMarco, age 51 of Lorain, lying on the cement parking lot near the vacuum cleaner island.  An investigation was conducted and the highly intoxicated male was taken to the hospital for observation.  Mr. Demarco was issued a citation for Disorderly Conduct Intoxication and Open Container.
