On Sunday, April 8, 2007, at approximately 1:04am, an officer, while on patrol in the parking lot of Motel 6, North Leavitt Road, observed a vehicle driving recklessly.  The officer initiated a traffic stop and an investigation was conducted. During the traffic stop, a passenger, identified as Matt Phillips, age 20 of Elyria, was found to be heavily intoxicated.  Mr. Phillips was issued a citation for Underage Consumption.

On Sunday, April 8, 2007, at approximately 1:27am, officers were dispatched to North Main Street, in reference to a report of a vehicle that had struck a mailbox.  Upon arrival, officers made contact with the driver, Andrew Matos, age 21 of Lorain, who appeared to be intoxicated. An investigation was conducted and Mr. Matos was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, State Refusal, Criminal Damaging, Disorderly Conduct Intoxication, and Failure to Control.

On Monday, April 9, 2007, at approximately 1:30pm, an officer was dispatched to Giant Eagle, Kresge Drive, for a theft complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the store manager who advised he observed a male, Charles Demmy, age 37 of Lorain, steal eight steaks.  An investigation was conducted and Mr. Demmy was arrested and charged with Theft.

On Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at approximately 2:00pm, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Party Shop, South Main Street, in reference to a passing bad checks complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the caller who stated she received a check that came back from her bank as insufficient funds.  An investigation was conducted and contact was made with the involved party and restitution was made.  A report was made for file.

On Thursday, April 12, 2007, at approximately 2:30pm, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Police Department in reference to a forgery complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who stated his mother has been intercepting his social security checks, forging and cashing them.  An investigation was conducted and the complainant did not wish to file charges at this time. A report was made for file.

On Friday, April 13, 2007, at approximately 1:03am, an officer, while on patrol in the area of Milan Avenue and North Ridge Road, observed a vehicle weaving within its lane of travel several times.  A traffic stop was initiated and an investigation was conducted.  The driver, Nelson Bermudez, age 26 of Amherst, was arrested and charged with Operating a Vehicle Intoxicated, BAC over .08%, and Weaving.

On Friday, April 13, 2007, at approximately 2:07pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Rock Creek Run in reference to an unruly juvenile complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the juvenile, his step father and the juvenile’s Probation Officer.  An investigation was conducted and it was learned the juvenile had standing orders at the Detention Home.  The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the Detention Home.

On Friday, April 13, 2007, at 4:09pm, an officer was dispatched to the Amherst Police Department in reference to a telecommunications harassment complaint.  Upon arrival, the officer spoke to the complainant who stated she received two telephone calls that were harassing in nature. An investigation was conducted and the complainant wished only to have a report made at this time.

On Friday April 13, 2007, at approximately 4:55pm, an officer was dispatched to a residence on Jackson Street in reference to a found bike.  Upon arrival, the officer met with the homeowner who advised he found a bike in his backyard behind a bush.  The bike is described as a 20” boys BMX Mongoose Opitx.  The bike was taken to the city storage facility and a report was made for file.

On Friday, April 13, 2007, at approximately 10:04pm, officers were dispatched to a residence on Middle Ridge Road, in reference to a possible underage consumption party taking place.  Upon arrival, the officers immediately observed several, what appeared to be juvenile males and females, standing around a table with cans of beer in their hands and on the table. Contact with the occupants was made and an investigation was conducted.   Two adult males, Travis Spurlock, age 19 of Amherst, and Steven Smith, age 19 of Strongsville, and six juveniles were issued citations for Underage Consumption.
